Resident Trout

Fly fish the best  evening hatches in May and June from a drift boat until darkness falls. Experience  the best Caddis, Mayfly and late evening spinner falls the Lower Grand has to offer. Fly Water offers private access to the best Fly fishing for Rainbow, and Brown trout.

Steelhead
Spey Casting and swinging big flies in late September to December 31st, and late April to late May. Grand River steelhead are wild aggressive fish and are known to take waking surface flies in the right conditions.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

**Minimum 50% non-refundable deposits are required
Upon booking with the balance due upon arrival.  

** All prices are in Canadian dollars and don’t include taxes (HST).

 

With regard to Gratuities we recommend a 10% minimum. Gratuities are at the angler’s discretion.

 

Half day trips are a minimum of 4 hours fishing. Full day trips are a minimum of 8 hours fishing.

If Fly Water cancels an adventure for whatever reason, your deposit will be refunded or held to secure a future adventure at your discretion.

If for any reason the trip is cancelled due to a client request. The deposit may be applied to a future booking.

Rates subject to change without notice prior to booking.

Fly Water has a barbless hook and no kill policy with all species.

Fly Water requires every client to sign a waiver of liability and to disclose any or all medical conditions that may arise while on your adventure.

Fly Water is fully insured, has Wilderness first Aid, Standard First Aid, CPR, and White Water Rescue Technician certification.

Fly Water has a total alcohol ban in effect at all times.

Without a guardian present the minimum age for all adventures is 18 years.

Fly Water supplies all required safety equipment. Safety equipment is required to be worn by all anglers.

 

GUEST INFORMATION PACKAGE

 TACKLE AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED/RECOMMENDED FOR FLY WATER TRIPS:

      Clothing:

·        breathable or neoprene chest waders  c/w stocking foot and slip on wading boots with felt soles

·         windstopper or breathable rain jacket  

·         thermal underwear (fleece & polyprop)for the colder weather, clothing you can layer to adapt to increasing or lowering temperatures

·         Long sleeve shirt/t shirt for sun protection on hotter days

·         Fishing vest or chest/waist pack

·         Small pack for spare cloths or extra sweater

·          Fishing hat/cap

 

Equipment:

·         polarized sunglasses: a complete MUST

·         Line clippers, hemostat, plyers

·         Small bag to carry camera, flies, sun cream

·          Sun block SPF 30+

·         bug repellent

·         sun gloves (optional)

·          camera and film

 

 Trout fishing set up:

Rods:

·          4 to 6 wt 9 foot rods, 3 or 4 piece rods are most practical when driving to the floats

·         4 to 6 wt Switch rods and light Spey rods work as well

·          7 to 8 wt 9 foot rods for larger streamers, windier conditions, faster waters where sink tip is used

·         We suggest you bring individual rod tubes to protect your rods in the boat while you are not using them.

Reels:

·         Lightweight reels with a drag system capable of handling at least 150 yards of 20 lb backing

Lines:

·         Weight forward floating lines for dry fly and surface fishing

·          Sinking tips for larger streamers, such as 5 to 10 foot fast sinking

·          Tapered leaders 3 x to 5 x

Flies:

Dry Flies:

·          Elk Hair caddis, size 12-16

·         May flies-comparadun, light Cahill, Adams, Hendrickson, hexageneia, march brown, in adult and emergers 10-18

·         Parachute Adams size 12-18

·         stimulators and Humpy’s sizes 10-18

·         Terrestrials: beetles, hoppers, ants, sizes 10-18

 Nymphs:

·         Pheasant tail

·         Prince nymph

·          Hare’s ear

·         Caddis Pupa

·         Small mayflies and midge imitations

·         All nymphs in sizes 14-18, but most widely used in size 16. Bead heads fish better

                                        Wet flies:

·         woolly buggers in a variety of colours , from small to large, cone head or bead head variety with rubber legs

·         rabbit leech patterns, dark in colour in a selection of sizes

·         sculpins and, small to large in assorted colours

Steelhead fishing set up:

Singlehanded Rods:

·          7 to 9 wt 9 to 10-6” foot rods, 3 or 4 piece rods are most practical when driving to the floats

Two handed Spey and switch rods:

·         6 to 9 wt Switch rods and Spey rods able to handle sink tip and weighted flies

·         We suggest you bring individual rod tubes to protect your rods in the boat while you are not using them.

Reels:

·         7 to 9 wt large arbour reels with a drag system capable of handling at least 250 yards of 20 lb backing

 Lines:

·         Rio versa tip and Skagit lines are versatile line set ups for Ontario Steelhead

·         Rio wind cutter floating lines for early fall and late spring 

·          10’ Tapered Steelhead leaders to 10lbs tip

Flies:

Dry Flies:
